Speaker 1:

Welcome back to Barefoot Mysteries. As always, your Barefoot Mystery Junkies, pat and Dave, are here with you for another adventure. I'm Pat, and I'm Dave.

Speaker 1:

You know, dave, i was thinking about this because we're scheduled to do this podcast And of course, we've all got our schedules every day, but it seems like every day starts with this long list of things we need to do, this to-do list, and that list has us going from the time we wake up until we finally lay our head down on the pillow and close our eyes And then guess what We get, to start it all over again the next day, and then the next day, and then the next day.

Speaker 2:

My problem is as I wake up and I think of more things to add to that list every night.

Speaker 1:

Oh, it's the worst, I hate that. Or to wake up and say I forgot to do this.

Speaker 2:

Well, especially if there's a due date.

Speaker 1:

Oh gosh, no talk about stress. And I think, because we have so much to do everybody is so busy every day of our lives, we have so much to do and not enough time to do it in, and we can't afford to have interruptions that it's become so much more common for us to text our conversations rather than placing a call. It's less intrusive, it doesn't interrupt our routines like phone calls do, and we can check on our messages and respond to them during our own time, on our own schedule.

Speaker 2:

That's true And the other. the only problem I see with text is a lot of times the message I'm trying to give you is not the same as I meant it to be.

Speaker 1:

I know, I know we've had this conversation before. Sometimes there's I pick up a tone that you didn't put there or you pick up a tone and yeah, that can be there, but it is such a time saver that it's very rare unless it's a business call. Even I have found in business more and more people are texting business conversations And you know I would rather do that unless I'm home alone, because I don't want strangers listening to my conversations. I sometimes wonder when I'm out and I'm listening to more than one conversation going on at a time next to me at the grocery store TJ Maxx or Marshalls or wherever I may be, even sometimes just walking through a parking lot.

Speaker 1:

It sounds like they're yelling their conversation, Oh it's so annoying And sometimes they have it on speakerphone So you get to get both sides. you know of the conversations.

Speaker 2:

Just just what you wanted.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, some, some conversations are better left, you know, between the two people. I just don't know if they even realize how many people they're leading into their private lives. Well, have you ever heard of someone eavesdropping on a text conversation?

Speaker 2:

I have not.

Speaker 1:

Of course you haven't, because it's not possible, or is it? And that brings us to today's story, written by Pascal Chatterjee. I came across this story and Dave and I will read it to you. I hope you guys find it as interesting as I did. I mean, it kept my attention and I hope that that when we read it it doesn't it keeps your attention. You don't go Oh my God, just come on, let's get on with it. So let me begin. This is actually called Annie 96 is typing. It is a conversation between Annie 96 and McDavey, and this is what Pascal Chatterby wrote.

Speaker 2:

McDavy, how appropriate.

Speaker 1:

While playing around with WhatsApp, i stumbled across a weird chat history between two people, i don't know. It scared the hell out of me. When I tried to find it again, the app crashed and it kept crashing. Luckily, i managed to make a copy Here. It is Good for you. Well, that would have been Pascal, because I'm reading what Pascal wrote.

Speaker 2:

Oh yes, that is true, good point.

Speaker 1:

You asleep?

Speaker 2:

No, yes, you're not either.

Speaker 1:

Can't. It's the wind, sounds like cats fighting. What's your excuse?

Speaker 2:

Studying.

Speaker 1:

So that's what they call porn now.

Speaker 2:

Annie WTF, Not denying it. I still can't believe what Johnny did today.

Speaker 1:

Me neither. That boy has issues. Wtf, The wind's so loud That does not sound normal. Lol.

Speaker 2:

No wind over here, just rain.

Speaker 1:

Lucky you. I need my beauty sleep.

Speaker 2:

Damn right, you do.

Speaker 1:

What You mean. I look Shit. I think I heard footsteps on the gravel outside.

Speaker 2:

Get your crazy dad to check it out.

Speaker 1:

I'm home alone. The fam are on holiday. Remember, i told you this.

Speaker 2:

Really Till when We should hang out?

Speaker 1:

They really sound like footsteps, but there's something odd about them. I should look out the window, but my bed is so warm.

Speaker 2:

Sure, you want to look out the window. You're home alone. What if there really is something there in your garden looking up at you?

Speaker 1:

Not funny, David.

Speaker 2:

Wow, chill, i'm sure it's nothing.

Speaker 1:

Gonna check BRB.

Speaker 2:

If there's something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call?

Speaker 1:

David, there's someone in the garden.

Speaker 2:

What Really?

Speaker 1:

Yes, I can see a man's back.

Speaker 2:

What's he doing?

Speaker 1:

He's looking for something on his hands and knees in the bushes.

Speaker 2:

Haha, he must be high, Probably looking for his drugs.

Speaker 1:

David, this is serious. What should I do?

Speaker 2:

Nothing. He'll probably go away by himself.

Speaker 1:

OMG, he's digging with his bare hands. He's ruining the garden Shit. he's turning around.

Speaker 2:

What does he look like?

Speaker 1:

David WTF. This isn't funny. What, What, how are you doing that?

Speaker 2:

What are you talking about?

Speaker 1:

I can see it's you in my garden. How are you writing here without touching your phone? Look up, i'm by the window. Can't you hear me banging on it?

Speaker 2:

Fuck, Annie, now you're scaring me too. I'm probably not in your garden. That's not me. I'm definitely not it there.

Speaker 1:

Stop playing around. I can see your face and you're wearing that stupid football jacket you're so proud of.

Speaker 2:

It must be someone who looks like me. Honestly, annie, i'm at home, i wouldn't play around like that.

Speaker 1:

It has to be a friend of yours, David, playing a sick prank. How else could he be wearing your jacket?

Speaker 2:

There are loads of jackets like that. My friends, don't look anything like me. You must have me on your mind.

Speaker 1:

He's digging again I can't leave already.

Speaker 2:

Annie, do you have a gun in your house?

Speaker 1:

Don't be stupid, david, i couldn't shoot anyone.

Speaker 2:

You don't have to use it, just show that you're carrying.

Speaker 1:

Doesn't that jacket have your name on the back?

Speaker 2:

You have the team all got one with their name on it.

Speaker 1:

I can see your fucking name. What, what the hell is this, david?

Speaker 2:

Annie, that jacket's in my closet.

Speaker 1:

Fuck, he's seen me. Why is he smiling like that? He's coming.

Speaker 2:

Call the cops. Annie. Annie, pick up. I've called the cops, told them there's a break in attempt at your place. They said they'd be on their way. They'd be there in about a half an hour. Annie, are you there?

Speaker 1:

It's in the house, can't talk. I have to be quiet. Lights off. I'm in a closet with a knife Hard to type, shaking too much.

Speaker 2:

Fuck, fuck. Hang in there, annie. The police will be there in 20 minutes. Do you know where he is?

Speaker 1:

It Not he. The look it had, david when it saw me. No person could look like that.

Speaker 2:

Jesus Christ, does it know where you are? No.

Speaker 1:

I grabbed the knife when I saw it running toward the house, and I got in the closet when I heard it breaking in.

Speaker 2:

Oh good, You'll be fine. A drug. He doesn't have the brains to hide in the closet. Find someone in the closet. The police will be there soon.

Speaker 1:

Oh God, it's calling out to me. It doesn't sound like you, david. Its voice is so deep, filling the house, filling my head.

Speaker 2:

What is it saying?

Speaker 1:

Come out, annie, i just want to look at you. It keeps repeating that over and over. Have I gone mad, david? Is this what that feels like?

Speaker 2:

Just 10 more minutes, annie. Keep it together. You are strong, you will get through this.

Speaker 1:

It's coming up the stairs, but so slowly irregular steps. Why does it look like you, david? Why you?

Speaker 2:

I don't know, annie, please believe me.

Speaker 1:

Can you make it stop? Please make it stop.

Speaker 2:

I would, if I could. I promise you.

Speaker 1:

It's at the end of the hall, david. I didn't say anything to my parents when they left. I was listening to music. Is that the last time I see them, annie? This has something to do with you, david. Only you can make it. stop. Make, fast.

Speaker 2:

I don't know, Annie, God please.

Speaker 1:

Please.

Speaker 2:

It might be because I think about you so much. I think about you all the time.

Speaker 1:

So stop.

Speaker 2:

I don't know how.

Speaker 1:

It's scraping something on the walls getting closer. Please, david.

Speaker 2:

I'm trying, i'm trying so hard.

Speaker 1:

It's slowing down, try harder. Whatever you're doing, it's working. It's working. It stopped. I can't hear anything.

Speaker 2:

Really Don't go out yet. Stay put until the police get there.

Speaker 1:

What should I tell them if he's gone?

Speaker 2:

Everything, annie, everything you told me.

Speaker 1:

I didn't know you felt that way about me, David.

Speaker 2:

I'm so glad it stopped.

Speaker 1:

Can you come over in the morning, David? I really need to see you.

Speaker 2:

Of course, annie, i'll be there.

Speaker 1:

Great, can't wait, annie.

Speaker 2:

How do I know this is you? Annie 96 went off the line.

Speaker 1:

Annie 96 went off the line. Well, that was the way to leave us hanging off the cliff. Yeah, poor Annie, annie, i think. Poor Davey, poor Dave. She never did say if that was her. She suddenly went offline when he said how do I know? this is really you, that's a good point. And went offline. Or did whoever was in her house get to her? Which one is it, dear listeners? Which one is it? I don't know, i don't know, I don't know, i don't know, i don't know, i don't know. Who is it, dear listeners? Which one do you think it is? Let us know, would you? And if you've ever heard any, or if you've ever received any strange text messages, anyone that seemed kind of creepy and weird, we'd love for you to share them. Just send us an email at barefootmysteriescom. Barefootmysteriescom. And until then, until our next exciting adventure and I promise we probably won't read a story again because we're not very good at it, but we hope you enjoyed this one, yes, we do. Until next episode, remember, be kind to each other And stay safe.
